Research paper & journal article editing
Editing aimed at one journal, not at journals in general. Send the author guidelines with your manuscript and we edit to them.
Desk rejection is usually avoidable
Editors at most journals decide within minutes whether a manuscript goes out for review. Much of what decides it is not the science: an abstract that buries the finding, a title that describes the topic rather than the result, a methods section a reviewer cannot reproduce from, references in the wrong style, a word count over the limit.
Those are fixable, and they are what this service fixes — alongside the full language pass that every ProofreadLab order includes.
Section by section
- Title and abstract — the finding foregrounded, within the journal's word and structure limits
- Introduction — the gap stated once, clearly, with the contribution named
- Methods — tense, voice and detail level consistent with reporting conventions in your field
- Results — numbers, units, decimal places, statistical reporting and figure references checked against the text
- Discussion — claims matched to the strength of the evidence, limitations placed where reviewers look for them
- References — in-text citations reconciled with the list and checked for style consistency
Formatted for your target journal
Tell us the journal on the order form, or paste a link to its author guidelines in the notes. Your editor works to those guidelines: heading levels, abstract structure, keyword count, word limits, reference style, figure and table caption conventions, ethics and data-availability statements.
If your manuscript breaks a stated limit and cannot be trimmed without cutting content, the editor tells you exactly where the surplus is and what it would cost you to cut it.
Cover letters and reviewer responses
Add your cover letter to the same order and we edit it at no extra charge on documents over 3,000 words. Responses to reviewers are edited as a separate short order: we check that every comment has been answered, that the tone stays collegial under pressure, and that each response points to the change in the revised manuscript.

Common questions
Can you guarantee my paper will be accepted?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Acceptance depends on the contribution, the fit with the journal and the reviewers you draw. What editing can do is remove the language and presentation reasons for rejection, so the decision is made on the research.
Do you check my statistics?
Editors check that statistics are reported consistently and completely — test names, degrees of freedom, effect sizes, p-value conventions, decimal places, and agreement between text, tables and figures. They do not re-analyse your data or verify that the test chosen was appropriate; that is a statistical review, which we can quote separately.
What if the journal rejects it and I resubmit elsewhere?
Send the new journal's guidelines and we reformat the same manuscript at the hourly formatting rate. If you have made substantial content changes, the changed sections are quoted at the normal per-word rate; unchanged text is not charged again.
Will editing affect my similarity or AI-detection score?
Human editing of your own text does not create similarity with other sources. We do not generate text, so nothing in the edited file is machine-written. If you used AI assistance while drafting, tell us and the editor will flag passages that read as machine-generated so you can decide what to do.
Send your abstract and introduction
We will edit 500 words free and tell you what a journal editor would notice first. One working day, no card required.
